A 29 year old artist, music producer and CEO of Worthy Adversary Muzik from Fort Worth TX, found a lost talent when he started hosting mixtapes.
He quickly started beasting on the underground scene with releases like K-Law’s (solo) Worthy Adversary Muzik Vol.1 mixtape and DJ-K-Law Presents If U Ain’t Know? Now U Do Vol.1-13. He continues to bring new local and unsigned talent along with all the new and exclusive radio flava from todays premiere artist to the streets and he only getting started!
He is always working to expand, and continue to purse the ultimate goal which is to bring hot muzik to the ones wanting to hear it, In this game you learn as you go, & its been along time coming… over 11 years long, Knowledge is power, so now its time to show & prove”- DJ K-Law.
He has put the dj mixtapes on hold while he works on his own album and mixtape as a artist. He has been working hard making something different and blending all the genres of music he grew up on. Now with the new upcoming K-Law Release Solo/Compilation mixtape titled “I Just Know You’re Gonna Fail”, dropping the end of next month, and his offical Worthy Adversary Muzik Album with “Rain Dance” as the Lead single coming early January. It’s safe to say K-Law is preparing to leave his mark in the game.
1. What’s good K Law?
Life is good. I’m excited about this music. Family is doing well, I can’t complain.
2. For starts what made you come up with the name you have today?
Basically I abbreviated the name. Thought it stood out, it was different, and it represented who I am. Krazy Loyal Aztec Warrior.
3. A decade ago Texas was running the Hiphop industry, after 08 the scene got kind of quiet. What is the current state of Texas Hiphop like right now?
Texas Hip hop is crazy, Scarface just dropped a classic . They got a unreleased Pimp C Album coming soon that I’m looking forward to check out. But the underground scene is dope, it’s where it’s at. You have all kinds of artist & genres that could be the next big thing in Dallas or Fort Worth the talent is definitely there. The biggest problem is beefs over nothing really, black, white, brown, ect we all in this together so let’s put all that aside and get this money so we can share with our family.
4. How would you say it changed over the last 10 years?
It definitely has changed. I mean right now labels are signing artists from the DFW so there is a spotlight of opportunity for those who want to take advantage of it. Most Recently signed is Jon Connor from Garland, then you have Leon Bridges & Solo Lucci From Fort worth.
5. Growing up who were your top 5 Texas Emcees and who were you top 5 emcees from anywhere that helped inspire who you are today?
Scarface, Bun B., Z-ro, Devin the dude, Pimp C.
All time 2pac, Eminem, Big Pun, Andre 3000, & Big L.
6. You started Worthy Adversary Muzik a few years back. For those don’t know can you tell us the artists on the label right now and what the long term plans are for the company?
I Have an amazing and talented singer named Sha’Von she has a crazy album coming called Bi-Polar. Mallie-G is gonna release a Ep called Brain Dead which is gonna be crazy he gots this whole weirdo movement that’s picking momentum so keep an eye for what he got coming. Still Min is the 1st producer of the Label he will be producing for a lot of artist in 2016. WAM affiliates J. Click, MightyJoe, & Bobby Suiters may each have a EP or mixtape coming. It will be crazy as well. I have worked with a lot of artists, I have archives of song over the years and so you may see something else.
7. We checked out some of your mixtapes from your series “If U Ain’t Know? Now U Do Vol.1-13” and it features some quality music on there. We heard artists from all over the country on there. How did that come about and when is the next volume slated to drop?
I would record artists and just throw that dj sound in there then I had one artist hit me up to host his mixtape he loved it so then I started hosting other artists mixtapes and decided to make a series and it’s been a roll from there. 14 volumes and looking to make the next one even better.
8. We saw your volume 12 was hosted by the late Hussein Fatal (of the Outlawz). What was that experience like having him host one of your mixtapes and do you remember when you heard the news about his passing?
Yeah it was great special thanks to the homie Advo for setting that up. I was a fan so it was a dope experience to work with him. I was gonna get him on a song for the album. I saw it on facebook someone had shared a link of horrible news. T.I.P.
(check out HHL’s review of Volume 12 (Hosted by Hussein Fatal) here– http://www.hiphoplead.com/unsigned/dj-k-law-if-you-aint-know-now-you-do-vol-12-hosted-by-hussein-fatal/
9. We know that you emcee but one of your joints in particular “Put It Down” had a smooth feel to it. We got to know off the bat is that you singing the hook too?
I’m Guilty as charged. Sometimes it’s hard to set up a recording session with busy schedules so I said screw it I’ll try it myself and it worked. K-Law RnB Album coming soon (ha not really).
10. Is that record from your upcoming album?
I’m not sure yet so we will see I was in the process of getting Weso-G & Candy Bow on it, but the album is coming together really nice and I keep making more music belive it or not I could make a few cds of the songs I cut from this album alone. I’m a perfectionist I record mix and master everything I got this Dr Dre persona and vault of songs building up.
11. Ok lets talk whats on the way. We heard you got a new banger that you are ready to unleash called “Rain Dance”. Can you tell us what that record is like and when is it expected to drop?
Rain Dance is gonna be a huge record that I feel really good about. It’s a real smooth/sexy/club record featuring myself Andrew Kent , Da Deptuy, & Drastik. It’s produced By Ocean Veau. Shout Out To Stevie Hix he wrote the singer parts. Be looking for my 2nd single called B.O.B. (BigOlButt) Feat Mallie-G produced by Weso-G is gonna be a fun feel good/party/club hit.
12. As far as a whole project what is coming first the K Law solo mixtape or album?
The 1st will be my Mixtape coming Out November 2015. My Album is coming 1st quarter of 2016. It’s going to have tons of exclusives of my best work.
13. Do you have any titles for those yet? If so, please share.
The Mixtape is Called “I Just Know You’re Gonna Fail”, that I themed loosely off the movie walk hard. Worthy Adversary Muzik will be the name of the album. This is going to be my beautiful ride my grand finale. Both contains heavy features I wanted to put out like an “All Etez On Me” so when it blows we all can eat.
14. Any features you can tell us about?
Tons of features Bizzy Bone, Sha’von, Mallie-G, Drastik. Da Deputy, Andrew Kent, Jordan Boyle, F Wellz, OneMan, KeyNote, Trailer Park Chunky, Pee Wee, Double Tezzy, Paco Tha Don, Bobby Suiters, Might Joe Hicks, J. Click, Kilo Artefacto, Josh Vasquez,Dizzi Davis, Jon Jon Da drama boy. I’m forgetting a few but yeah its dope I enjoy working and putting these tracks together.
15. How do you feel about the current state of Hiphop?
I’m not a big fan of mainstream but I think there is enough room for all of us. The goal is to make music that last. Some will fade but my music will be forever.
16. Your song “One Day” was a pretty deep record that was dealing with death. Did you lose someone personally that inspired you to write that track?
Yeah my cousin, that boy Salas wanted to make a song for our loved ones who passed away and we let our emotions spill on that one and made a real deep song.
17. What’s the 5 year plan for DJ K Law and Worthy Adversary Muzik?
To have a successful empire doing what I love to do. Making Worthy Adversary Muzik a brand name and breaking new artists out of dfw. Have my own production team of producers, songwriters, and artist. So when a artist or label needs help with a song or breaking a artist we will have you covered.
18. It was good chopping it up with you. We def dig what you are bringing to the table and we look forward to hearing your new album. Right now the floor is yours so feel free to share any links or websites and let out readers know where to check you out.
