Born in Philadelphia, PA it was in the South Philly neighborhood of 7th street
where Goshen Music Group had it’s inception. They are mostly childhood friends
with some of them meeting a little later in life
.
The affiliates of Goshen Music Group are Navoh King, Ceek Truth, Boo Man, Meek
Oz, DJ Mike B, and Brom Cognito. Ceek Truth, Boo Man, and Meek Oz behan working
on music together in South Philly, we met DJ Mike B, and Navoh King who had been
making music under the name L.K.S which stands for the Lab Kitchen Shop.
At that point they all began working together, and trying to get a deal. Along with
two other great and talented artists named Denim, and Kev we were invited to Def Jam
where we played our demo, and it was well recieved. But a deal didn’t come at that time.
Eventually we decided to form our own independent label, and so we started Goshen
Music Group.
We are focused on contributing conscious music to the world of hip hop, as well as
the world in general. Our style is somewhat Gospel Hip-Hop as we make an extra point
to promote the Bible in the music while staying true to the street essence of the music.
Navoh King has an album titled Relinquish slated for release Jan. 1st 2016, Ceek Truth
has an album up for release Dec. 1st 2015 entitled: G.A.I.N (Great Adventure’s In
Nazareth),and there is a group album scheduled for summer 2016
1. Cool to meet you guys. What inspired each of your solo names and the group name?
Nice to meet you as well. Boo Man got his name as a kid in the hood. DJ Mike B got his because he was and still is a great DJ known in Philly. Meek always liked the name Oz. Brom Cognito is because his music speaks for him. Navoh King got his because he’s sharp with writing. And Ceek Truth comes from being interested in learning, and being a student.
2. How old are you guys?
We are all from 29 to 30’s.
3. When did you guys seriously decide to form a group? What was the turning point?
About a year ago, we were all solo artists doing our own projects. We decided we will come together and pool our resources to form a stronger team, but it had to be done with a purpose. And that purpose is to spread the Gospel with music.
4. Your joint “Rakim” was fresh as hell. What was it about him in particular that stands out as one of the best in your opinion?
Thanks, for the compliment. When I was a kid like 9 years old I got a Paid in Full tape as a gift. It was my first hip hop tape that i owned, and i listened to it every night, i memorized every ryhme on both sides of the tape. So Rakim taught me how to rap. I always liked his style the street, but intellectual flow, spiritual like he knew things beyond the physical world, and vocabulary crazy. He cool and smooth, and can lyrically knockout MC’s plus he’s about teaching a good messgae.

5. What is Goshen Music Groups opinion on todays Hiphop?
Today’s hip hop is cool, because you got all kinds of artists out there expressing what they have to share with the culture.
6. A little off subject, but being toy guys are from Philly … what’s your thoughts on Chip Kelly and the Eagles this season?
We are Eagles fans, and Chip made so many changes to the team, and the team is struggling so much that it makes his decisions look very questionable. We still have hope for the team this year. Go Eagles!
7. It’s pretty interesting that you guys were growing up in a Christian household so we assume your musical experience was limited? Was it? If so was it because your parents thought censoring the music was the Christian thing to do?
None of us grew up very religious, just a basic understanding and belief that God exists. Some of the group members are Muslim, We all listened to all kinds of music, a very wide range of genre’s.
8. Are you guys currently in the same state? If not, is it hard to be in a group and make music happen?
We live in different states right now, but we all agree on setting aside a time to work on a project, and chose one studio to all meet up at, then we promote, and work the project. It’s not that difficult, because we work very well together in the studio and also sending tracks.
9. Do you guys have any group videos as of yet?
No group videos yet, but we have them coming soon.
10. So we listened to come of your music and your track on Digital Dynasty 38 (Hosted by Madchild). All of them have a message to them. Just to let us know what projects have you guys released to date?
To date we’ve only released The Prophetic EP.
