Guerrilla Alliance consists of members VX: Heaven’s Assassin aka Vega X, and Mac the Rebel. Since their first Collaboration in 2003, VX and Mac have continued to collaborate through out the years, and have shared a unique style of rhyming that compliments each others skill. Which soon gave the duo the idea to strike together as name branded Guerrilla Alliance! GA is the showing means of bringing Raw Spiritual/Revolutionary hip-hop to the ones hungry to feed the psychosis and grit of ones third eye. In 2011 they released the single to their sophomore LP “Empire of Fear” titled “Ordo Ab Chao” feat. Canibus & DJ Tone Spliff, and Prod. by Domingo. So far two singles have been released from their third and final album “The Dark Rift”. These are “Sacrificial Chamber” feat. Killah Priest & Tone Spliff, and “Attack by Fire” feat. 9th Prince & Tone Spliff. Check out their official website @ http://www.planetxrecordsllc.com
Just as the year starts to wind down we had a chance to catch up with the fellas and it went something like this…
1. What’s good homies? How’s things your way?
Outstanding, getting ready to drop this third album, and head out on tour again. – VX
A lot of projects to do, and a lot of places to hit – Mac
2. Lets start with your names, because they are different and well thought out. How did you guys come up with your stage names?
VX: Heaven’s Assassin, used to be “Vega” “X” as in Vega the star, I then shortened it to VX as in the poison gas. The “Heaven’s Assassin” title came from the Spawn character “the Redeemer” an assassin from heaven. – VX
I had so many names, but the name Mac was way back in my childhood. I was once Mac the Blazematical, to Mac Blaze, which alot of kids are using now. Originally it was Macabean the Rebel after I studied alot about the African Hebrews; The passage in Deuterontomy, The valley of dry bones, 12 Tribes of Judah , Maccabean Revolt, etc., which was amazing to me, yet me being one to understand my own history, decided on “Mac The Rebel” as I feel its just only me being what i’m destined/or fated to be. “Mac El Cacique” is my Taino tribal name. – Mac
3. So we know Guerilla Alliance is your group and that Planet X records is your label. Outside of yourselves, do you have any other artists on the roster?
Yes several, EL*A*KWENTS is a solo artist as well as a member of my other group Celestial Order. MC Therapist our new Philadelphia member, Alphabetik, and Irrefutable our Australian member.
4. Where you guys from?
Greater Boston area in New England, currently residing in Boston – VX
Born in the Bronx, New York. Now out here in Wilmington, Delaware. Next Door to Philly – Mac
5. Your most recent single and video dropped for “Sacrificial Chamber” and it features WuTang’s very own Killah Priest! How did this track come about and what made you guys want to select this for a single?
Had the idea to link with Priest for quite some time new, and he fit this album concept perfectly. M-Eighty of the Almighty helped facilitate this verse. – VX
The single was crafted very well with Tone Spliff on the Cuts, our Recordings and Amos with his Productions. The Video was an idea we all wanted to do. We had worked on this little short story, with dozen of dope ideas, and references which I’m sure some or few will pick up on. In the end, the result was insane! -Mac
6. We can tell off the bat you love that real rap, that authentic Hip Hop, as do we! How does today’s climate in Hip Hop make you feel?
It makes me feel not excited for some time the whole scene has lacked energy. Hip-hop & music in general have been way over saturated since the peak of the internet age. Of course there are still artists putting out hardcore records such as Killah Priest, Ill Bill, Mad Child and a few select others. I just think since hardcore rap has declined in the underground and the “emo” genre has bled in to hip hop rap music has softened. In the mainstream the quality standard has lowered and they put out garbage. -VX
Terrible. These kids I swear, you can look at them, listen to them, smell they shitty liquor breath and somehow sense their fabrication goin’ off. “Rap” today i feel sounds like a bunch of Eunichs on the mic with 0% lyrical content and a bouncy mediocre beat. I ain’t mad at these kids on the come-up that take it seriously, but if all they can do is take short-cuts, never take the time to build there expirience when dealing with both music and business side of things, They shouldn’t even consider a spot in this at all and stop leeching and oversaturating hip hop like maggots. – Mac
7. So tell us more about “The Dark Rift”. How would you describe the overall sound of the project?
The overall sound of the project is obviously “dark” but I would not say depressing or negative. There is lots of positive content about the future. The concept deals specifically with clearing up some of the rumors about the “Mayan 2012 Apocalypse” In short the end of the Mayan long count is not “The end of the world” but the end of an age. A resetting of Planet Earth, and a shift to a more in tune human consciousness. – VX
“The Dark Rift” is like a third generation introspective on alot of things . Its gonna talk about things you might already know, have already seen, yet also things that have never been spoken or addressed on. It’s going to have warriors search their soul, it’s gonna discover if the rebel in you or the slave in you exist, it’s going to have you search the skies and stars more often. I mean, its our best work yet! – Mac
8. What’s your favorite songs on there and why?
The best singles? That’s for the fans to decide, take you’re pick. I like the Ill Bill Joint, “Star Metal” feat. Chino XL, and “Sacrificial Chamber” feat. Killah Priest & tone Spliff prod. Amos the Ancient Prophet of Poland. – VX
Sacrificial Chamber ft. Priest, For now – Mac
9. How would you say you guys have evolved from your latest project compared to the others?
The Dark Rift is the ultimate pinnacle of the Guerrilla Alliance rap style, the Evolution is uncanny. Where on “Guerrilla Warfare” it was more a hard core historical documentary type of aspect with a few concept tracks, “Empire of Fear” was living in post 9-11 America dealing with the present day. Here on “The Dark Rift” we have the present day up to the future. There will be some New World Order content but the material on this record is closer to a spiritual concept record such as “the Duat” by LCOB dealing with Eqypt. Our focus was the Mayan / Aztec Empire here. – VX
Definitely a great evolution. In ‘The Dark Rift’, we’re pretty much crossing the rubicon on this. Though the content is more spiritual, it’s probably the best in todays generation that this music we puttin’ out gets heard. Because in the end, we fight a spiritual war, the war within yourself. This album will be a reminder to everyone of that. – Mac
10. So what’s next for 2017?
Promoting the release of “The Dark Rift” dropping “Polar Opposites” Mix CD this month, as well as MC Therapist “Socialized Anxiety”, and an EP from Alphabetik / Irrefutable – VX
11. Before we get out of here, it would be only right to know, who were you guys’ favorite emcees that inspired you to do what you do now?
Kool G Rap, Big Punisher, Canibus, Killah Priest, Ill Bill – VX
Peace! -Mac
