Trifemagic aka T.R.I.F.E. (True rhymes ignite from existence) is an aspiring hip-hop/ rap artist from the 757 area in Hampton,Va. Representing authentic music and raised during the “Golden Age” of hip-hop,
Trifemagic has recently released a album, entitled “Pangaea”, which is rooted around the theme of unity, self awareness, and of course pure raw head nodding speaker knocking music. The album released May 15th 2016 and is available both hardcopy and digital. The album boasts three strong singles with the videos on YouTube. The first single “Fear Not” , second single “No Games” and third single “Dreaming” gives listeners a dose of what the album has in store.
T.R.I.F.E. was recently featured on the summer exclusive Mixtape” Digital Dynasty 42 (Hosted by Jeru The Damaja)” with the song “Maze runner” from his album Pangaea. Trifemagic is also working on another project for the fall of 2016.
T.R.I.F.E. also produces beats but often calls on Roqk Muziks own Chief Eye for production as well as a few other producers to help create his art. Trifemagic has been spitting flames since the mid 90’s and continues to evolve with the times with laser sharp lyrics like from the track titled “Monologue” “Peep the monologue/ Trife toss flames like a Molotov/ Killing these frauds like the Holocaust/ call me Orca/ watch me spit the whale(well) water/ the ill author/ will still off ya/” or his line from “Fear Not ” “My art is the arc watch me flow like Noah/ no snakes on my ship chop the head off a boa”/and “I come thru like a shark in bloody waters/ leave the whole crime scene Redman like muddy waters”/are examples of the sick word-play of Trifemagic.
T.R.I.F.E. will also be dropping a mixtape sometime near the end of the 2016 year or early 2017. Stay tuned by subscribing to Roqk Muzik Company on YouTube for the latest videos and exclusive visuals.
1. What’s good Trife, how are things your way?
Everything is good right now, just promoting the album and working on other things to remain on top of my situation. Trying to network with other artists whom I feel have the skill-set that deserves to be heard and displayed worldwide. And making connections in other states to do the same.
2. For those that don’t know how old are you?
I am 38 years old born December 6th 1977 in Bad News Virginia and raised in Hampton, Virginia. Although I am seasoned with age I evolve with time to continue making relevant music for listeners.
3. You have a unique voice, something dark and gravely. It reminds us of a Xzibit meets Scarface type of sound. The ferocious flow that accompanies your voice makes for a perfect delivery. When did you develop your flow and style that really showcases what TrifeMagic is about?
4. Your song “Maze Runner” was on repeat 3 straight times for us when we heard it on Digital Dynasty! You really went in some Killah Priest type of zoning and were giving us a dose of that imaginary word play. It kind of made us wonder who were Trife’s favorite emcees that inspired him to become the artist he is today?
My favorite artists range in styles but all deliver strong lyrics and word-play. I admire Killah Priest because of his syllable matching flow rhyming almost every sound. I admire Andre 3000 for us versatility and out of the box thinking and deep thought provoking lyrics, and Redman was definitely always a favorite because of his dope lyrics , imagination, an d versatility. Those are probably my three favorite but I also really like artist such as Styles P, Ghostface Killah ,Black Thought, Talib, and Common.
5. One thing we loved about your music is you switch it up and don’t just stay in the same box. When we heard “Salute” we were like damn, Trife went from making some boom bap era sounding Wutang records to a straight down south anthem! That record is fiya. How did you come up with that one and any plans for a video?
When I heard the beat I felt it was a perfect sound for a street anthem so my goal was to come up with a chorus that had a slight melody matching the beat. I wanted to incorporate themes within the hook that a lot of people on the grind in everyday life could relate to. Something that people would love to ride to. I do plan on releasing a video for that song in the near future for the people to check out.

6. We saw your latest album “Pangaea” dropped a few months ago. The title is interesting, how did you come up with it? What’s your favorite record on there and why?
I wanted something different and relevant containing a message that the listener would get once they heard the album. Pangaea represents unity as when the planet was one super continent. I wanted to deliver a positive informative message to the people while still spitting raw hip-hop lyrics. My favorite record is a toss up between” Sumthn Special”, “Monologue” and “Without a warning”. The vibe and melody of the beat on Sumthn Special just puts me in a good place mentally when I hear it and the message is straight forward as it sets the album off following the intro track. Without a warning is the other favorite because the beat knocks combining horns and guitars over a sick drum pattern and the lyrics are raw finishing the theme of the album off perfectly. Monologue is a favorite because if the energy it brings and authentic hip-hop sound of the beat. The track has scratching in the hook with my voice being used as the sample. It’s definitely one of the songs I listen to early on the wake up.
7. What else is in the works? Any shows, mixtapes, albums, etc?
I’m working on a few projects currently. Another album is definitely in the works but I’m also recording songs in preparation for a mixtape to drop. I have been collaborating with a lot of different artist from different areas for the upcoming projects. I also will be performing at some venues when different events become available.
8. We saw your video for ”No Games”. The message of the song was about show and proving and how a lot of people are more talk than walk. At what point in your career did you take the bull by the horns and make the legacy Trife wanted as an artist?
I really started going hard in about the year 2000 when I reconnected with other artist, producers, and engineers I knew from my early recording days. It was like a reunion that was meant to be. We had a spot we could go to record anytime of the day or night with two separate recording areas in the building. It allowed me the time and opportunity to be more creative.
9. What is a typical day for Trife like ??
I get up around 10, get myself together for the day.. Get my morning pregame on and listen to music.. Depending on what is next on my checklist of things to do I will either work in a beat or a verse. I may hook up with one of my homies and just kick it, possibly hit up a bar or catch sports highlights. Then head to the lab to brainstorm on ideas and maybe record a song. I often write when I’m by myself In sporadic moments unless I am working on a project on the spot with another artist or working on a beat.
10. With 2016 half way over what other goals are you trying to accomplish?
I am trying to establish myself as a consistent artist that is known for being able to get on any record make it a great song. Consistency is key so I plan on dropping something else exclusive for the people before the year is out so stay tuned for that. I am going to drop more visuals for songs from my album Pangaea throughout the year and into the next.
11. In the long run are you looking for a major deal or an indy deal?
I just want to be heard and respected first and foremost. As far as indie or major I probably would lean towards indie because creative control is very important. If a major deal was offered and everything was in order then I may consider that route as well.
12. We know you also produce sometimes. What are your weapons of choice when making a beat?
I use the Akai MPC 2000 XL and the Native instruments Maschine MK2 when I make beats. I love the sound and functionality of the MPC especially the drums and the Maschine offers similar features with the addition of digital sounds and other options.
13. We know you have a project you are working on for the Fall. Can you give us some insight on it? Album, mixtape? Any other details?
The project for the fall will be a collection of songs that I am collaborating with other artist on from different states to branch out into new possible marketing opportunities. The mixtape will be available on a variety of media’s to give the people something crazy before the new year. Another special project in the works is the Eastern State Muzik Mixtape. That’s definitely gonna be dope.
14. It was cool chopping it up with you bro, in closing let our readers know where to check you out and whatever else you want to let them know. Also thanks for keeping real hiphop alive with the lyrics!
